Candid Comment - Video Edition - Happy Fathers Day

Happy Fathers day,

The following video is a short tribute to my dad Jim, step dad Bill grandfather Ed whom I called grandpa Malley and my grandmothers third husband Buck.

All of them taught me about the importance of listening to people and enjoying life.  They were hardworking men who lived their lives to the fullest.  I also mention my nephews and nieces and encourage everyone to remember that listening to others is important.  Even when we disagree being a good listener is still very important.

Happy fathers day to all the dads seeing this and if you are not a dad, like me but, happen to be an uncle remember that you still play a role in the lives of nephews and nieces.

Candid Comment - Video Edition - NCAA Divisions A Lay and I Mean Very Lay Description

Hi there,  Am I sports fan, nah.  But, I am getting interested in football.  My brother in Law Roger is a fan of Notre Dame a huge fan.  And I have been to the house a few times to watch the team play.  I have to say I do root for them.  Why because they are such a storied team with history behind them.  But, there are other colleges and universities that have good teams and others well, they try.

Just for the heck of it I watched an old broadcast of a game between the Marietta Pioneers and the Muskingum Muskies.  Would I say it was great football, no but it was not bad either.  In fact it was pretty good.  Anyway here is the link to the video.

NCAA Divisions explained sort of.

And here is the link to the NCAA site https://www.ncaa.com/

And what the heck The Fighting Muskies site.  Check the logo it's really well different.

Candid Pick - Breakfast For Dinner

While doing research for a new interview here on Candid Conversations I saw this in a press release.  10 Ways to have breakfast for dinner.  LOL my wife and I have don that quite often so we know it's a thing as I am sure all of you do.  This list comes from a restaurant in Hawaii.

If you are on the big island drive by say hi and grab some easts.  In the meantime here is that list which I found on Briefigwire.com.

Listed below is the name of the restaurant and it's address and website along with the list.

Giovanni Pastrami
227 Lewers Street
Honolulu, HI 96815
808-923-2100

1. Breakfast Pizza: Personally, we can eat pizza any time, night or day, but we love to change things up and make it fresh each time. We keep frozen, risen crusts on hand and they're the perfect vessel to hold typical breakfast foods. Make it with a pesto, a marinara, or even a white gravy, no matter how you slice it, it's good eats!

2. How To Make A Breakfast Burrito: We love food that's self contained and this version can even forgo the dinner table if needs be. Breakfast burritos also carry the ability to use up leftovers in your refrigerator such as stray meats and veggies!

3. Cheddar and Green Chile Waffles with Thyme Maple Syrup: Waffles for dinner, well there's just nothing better. The bonus to eating this carb-loaded treat is you don't have to feel guilty for the nap that's sure to follow!

4. Fresh & Light: 12 Breakfast Casseroles: Casseroles are beautiful things. They can be prepared and left in the refrigerator for your return home, just waiting for you to toss them in the oven. They feed a hungry mob and still leave you time to help kids with homework or put your feet up and relax while they bake!

5. Fluffy Ricotta Pancakes: Although the rich and heavy waffles above might leave you sedated for awhile, these light and airy ricotta pancakes will leave you with a spring in your step and wondering why you don't make them more often!

6. Potato Pancakes: There isn't really a time of day that potato pancakes aren't appropriate, but you can feed a family of 4 for just a few dollars. They freeze great and are hearty and filling for hungry tummies!

7. Cream Biscuits With Add Ons: These biscuits are made in a snap and although they're great just as they stand, they're even more delicious when mixed with leftover meats, cheeses, an egg or even some velvety white gravy... be still our hearts.

8. Eggs en Cocotte: These baked eggs require so little prep it's almost shocking. The results are ramekins full of little pillows of egg whites and milky soft yolks. You can add in almost any leftover still in your fridge to spice them up a little, but they're great just the way they are.

9. Lemon Frittata with Leeks and Goat Cheese: This dish is a cherished one in our archives. It's a staple that should be in everyone's back pocket because of its versatility, simplicity and bright and comforting tastes.

10. Double Chocolate Butterscotch Breakfast Muffins: Even though it's dinner, these chocolate muffins are rich enough that they're perfect for the theme and curb any sweet tooth at the table. Consider them a breakfast dessert!

Candid Comment - Don Cherry / Ron McLean BFFs Again - Probably Not

Don Cherry, still making news today.  The former Sportsnet employee and one of the hosts of Coach's Corner made it clear that he has no animosity towards Don McLean, but does not think he will ever be friends with him again.  He stated he can forgive, but won't forget that he felt betrayed by McLean.

Interesting to note that Ron McLean has not said a word about the recent comments that Cherry has made.  It is as if he is ignoring him outright.  But Ron has stated that he misses Don and has stated he still thinks of him as a friend.  While Cherry does not hold any animosity towards Ron McLean I would think that he certainly does not like the man much any more.  I will give this to Don Cherry he has enough class not to rip into Ron McLean.  Personally I don't think I could be that kind of guy if someone threw me under the bus like Cherry was.  Now for the record, Don messed up.  He really messed up and should he have lost the job?  Yes.  You see Don has stepped in it so many times that at one point the managers at Sportsnet and CBC finally had to say enough.

It should be noted that Coach's Corner had a 30+ year run.  Eventually things would have come to an end.  But, how the show ended that is the thing that is the rub for Don Cherry.

Broadcasting can be a brutal business to be in.  It's actually quite cut throat at times and people will toss other people under the bus to keep a job, get a job or take a job from a rival in media.  I have seen that done in the time I was in radio in the 90's heck I had it happen to me.  As for racism ah ya lets address that in the media for a moment.  It's no secret that the media is still male dominated, white and when it comes to persons with disabilities almost has no visibility at all.  Now has there been improvements.  Absolutely but, much more work needs to be done.  So it goes without saying that it was a good thing that Ron McLean apologized after the You People incident on Coach's Corner and while it was sad to see Don Cherry lose his job.  The manner in which it was done is typical for broadcasting.  Which is get them off the air NOW.  Here is another rub, it appears to have been more about saving advertising dollars and Ron McLean's career rather than trying to possibly save the show, though it appears Don was clear that he would not change his position on the matter.  So there was really only one choice left.  It just looked bad, still looks bad and cost everyone way to much in the end.  It just could have been and should have been handled better.  That said looking at the show now, Hockey Night In Canada, the first and second intermission shows are boring so in one sense Don Cherry can chuckle a bit and say that at least with me there was substance.  Now meh just meh.  And that goes for any chance of Don and Ron getting together and talking again.  Though you never know, but really meh I don't think so.

Candid Conversations - Zoomed In With Jodi Krangle Voice Actor and Podcaster

This is an interview with Jodi Krangle, Voice Actor and podcaster. It is the first ever video interview with anyone for Candid Conversations.

That said enjoy the video.
